Team Leader: Riichiro Abe,
Senior Associate Professor
In December 2014, Dr. Satoru Shinkuma returned from
his overseas research stay and joined the 4th Lab. Dr.
Shinkuma who had conducted research on establishing
iPS of epidermolysis bullosa at Columbia University
in New York, has teamed up with Dr. Yasuyuki Fujita
who is conducting clinical experiments on a new
therapy for epidermolysis bullosa. Dr. Teruki Yanagi
came back from US, and joined our group. Incoming
graduate course students Drs. Chihiro Nakayama and
Shota Takashima have joined the Lab and started their
research under Drs. Fujita and Shinkuma. The lab has
become quite a force. Remarkable progress in projects
is expected. The senior graduate course students, Drs.
Inkin Ujiie and Wakana Matsumura, have been doing
their research under the instruction of Dr. Fujita. Dr.
Takamasa Ito and Ms. Asuka Sudo are researching
under my guidance. All are working hard to achieve
results. Dr. Keiko Nishimura, who had been searching
for biomarkers in severe cases of cutaneous adverse
drug reactions, took a temporary leave from research
because of her family’s move out of Sapporo. She’s
already obtained good results in her experiments and
is working hard to wrap up the results of the analyses.
I’m always grateful to lab tech Ms. Yukiko Nakamura
and secretary Ms. Yukako Shibata, who’ve been
supporting the lab in many ways and have been brightening
In the new year, the
number of members
has increased and the
open lab is full of exuberance.
The sight of
young doctors experimenting
in the lab
makes us foresee a very
bright future. To realize
a bright, promising
future, let’s work hard
