Team Leader: Wataru Nishie,
Senior Associate Professor

Our team is doing research on basal membrane proteins of the epidermis and hair follicles. Last year, Dr. Machiko Nishimura was awarded a Ph.D. for her study on the processing of type XVII collagen (Hum Mol Genet 2016), and Dr. Mayumi Wada was awarded a Ph.D. for her study on the pathogenesis of anti-type XVII collagen antibodies (J Invest Dermatol 2016). This year, Dr. Ellen Toyonaga, who has been analyzing the three-dimensional structure of type XVII collagen and linear IgA dermatosis, and Dr. Kentaro Izumi, who developed a novel ELISA for bullous pemphigoid, expect to publish papers. In 2015, we consulted on many cases of bullous pemphigoid and linear IgA dermatosis. We’ve been making efforts in our research with the understand-ing that these efforts are playing some role in clinical activities in general.
